The Danse Macabre candle is inspired by the late middle ages allegorical artistic tradition of depicting the dance of death. In this tradition, death is personified as a line of dancing skeletons, and as the great equalizer, death joins Queen and peasant, Emperor and laborer, youth and elder among them. The dance of death also functions as a memento mori, reminding us to relish our time on earth. As the line from Macbeth suggests, we have but a moment.
Ornamented with organic beeswax skulls, quartz, and tourmaline, this candle juxtaposes symbols of light and dark, and joins substances whose hardiness withstands the ages with those which melt at the tip of a flame. Top notes of orange peel and spiced honey blend into warm and deep scents of tonka bean, smoke, and aged wood. These fragrances remind us to enjoy the sweets of the present moment, remembering that time dissipates like smoke on a breeze.
