House of Mirs

Srinagar, Kashmir, India

House of Mirs is a family‑run textile workshop with roots in the Kashmiri handicraft tradition dating back to the late 19th century. The business began around 1885, when the first generation of the Mir family became involved in producing and sharing Kashmiri textiles beyond the region. Over successive generations, the family built relationships with markets across India, connecting handcrafted textiles to customers in cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, and Delhi and developing a reputation for quality and craftsmanship.

Today the workshop is led by Akhtar Mir and his family. Akhtar represents the continuation of a multi‑generation craft tradition in which hand embroidery and textile production remain central. The House of Mirs team works with materials like cashmere, wool, and silk, fibers historically associated with the Kashmir Valley.

For Peregrin, House of Mirs produces hand‑embroidered cashmere and hooked textiles that include items like scarves, stoles, cushion covers, rugs, and more. Each product reflects a combination of traditional skills and careful finishing, with many stages of handwork that contribute to the durability and visual richness of the final piece. Because every item is made by hand, individual variations in stitching and pattern are part of their character.

By supporting House of Mirs, customers are contributing to the continuation of a long‑standing craft practice and the livelihoods of artisans who maintain these skills. Products from Akhtar and his team connect the history of Kashmiri textile arts with contemporary appreciation for handmade work.
