Hebron Glass, made by a Palestinian cooperative run by Hamzeh Natsheh, was established in 1890 in the West Bank city of Hebron. The glassware is crafted by approximately 60 skilled artisans. Each piece reflects authentic Palestinian heritage through distinctive shapes and swirling patterns, preserving stories passed down through generations. This glassware remains a cherished tradition in Palestinian households, embodying cultural identity and artisanal excellence.
The cooperative of Hamzeh Natsheh uses recycled bottles from local homes and businesses as raw materials. Their ovens are fueled with repurposed motor oil sourced from nearby garages, minimizing environmental impact. Despite challenges posed by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and movement restrictions, Hebron Glass sustains its craft by recycling everyday materials. The company is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and economically rewarding environment for its artisans, ensuring the preservation and vitality of this traditional Palestinian art form.
