The Huipil Weekender Tote skillfully combines two textile heritage products from Guatemala. Vintage huipil, a garment worn by Mayan women, features woven geometric patterns, florals, with a mix of beading, embroidery, and appliqué. Vegetable tanned, sustainably sourced leather accents the bag. Hand assembled by master craftsmen. Made by mother and son team, Nely and Kenneth Santos.
This huipil originated in Nahualá Sololá, Guatemala. Known for intricate and abstract geometric figural designs of animals and symbolic motifs. This particular design features symmetrical jaguars. The sale of this huipil helped feed a family or keep a child in school. Due to its condition, it was repurposed to live another life as a beautiful tote bag. Cherish it's heritage and respect its beauty.
