Mini Shyrdrak Square Cushion Cover

Shyrdak is a traditional textile from Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan in this case. Wool is harvested from local sheep and felted by hand, an extensive process traditionally dominated by women. Made in their homes, these pillows provided women with an income while balancing domestic responsibilities.

Soft grey wools are used with a subtle ivory border. The women artisans impart well wishes into each piece as Shyrdak are traditionally given as wedding gifts. Inlaid swirling motifs are symbolic, the "suu-water" design is meant to ward of negative spirits.
